Otumoetai Doctors

Tauranga, New Zealand

Tracy did her MBBS at UNSW graduating in 1985, married a Kiwi in 1988 and followed him to New Zealand to complete her GP training.  “I wanted to be a plastic surgeon as a child but I realised during my early hospital years that I would have to choose between a surgical career or a family”.

She has five exceptional children, most born during the 7 years she lived in Melbourne while her husband completed training in anaesthetics.  Since 2001 Tracy has worked in suburban general practice in the small city of Tauranga.

Still ambitious to be a surgeon, and having always enjoyed the practical side of medicine, she started formal skin cancer training with Professor Anthony Dixon (no relation) in 2010 and completed all the ACCO courses.  Tracy transitioned to just skin cancer management in 2019, but still works from GP rooms in the practice where she was formerly a partner.  Her work consists of full skin checks, lesion checks, and medical and surgical management, as well as second opinions and surgery for public patients from Tauranga Hospital.  In 2020 she has graduated with the UQ Master of Medicine (skin cancer) and was awarded the Deans Commendation for academic excellence.

In March 2020, just before Covid-19 accelerated and NZ went into level 4 lockdown, Prof Dixon visited for practice accreditation - a rewarding and gratifying experience she would highly recommend.  She is excited to now be setting her sights on obtaining ACCO fellowship.

She loves other handiwork and is an avid designer, knitter and seamstress and is getting plenty of practice making re-usable triple layer fabric face masks for colleagues, family and friends.  She sings in a traditional church choir and New Zealand’s auditioned baroque chamber choir.
